all choked up
Wednesday, Apr. 26, 2006 || 1:30 p.m.

Welp, it's been a week since Buc died. It's really weird not having cats anymore. Every morning when I close the dogs in the spare room, I catch myself looking to see if either of the cats are hiding out in there and then I remember that they're both gone. I know, I know, enough moping over dead cats. I hope a long, LONG time goes by before I have any more pet deaths (or any deaths for that matter) to report.

I played hooky today, sort of. I took off a few hours in the morning to take a tour with L of the middle school she'll attend next year. When I got home, it was just too tempting to call in and take the rest of the day off. I'm supposed to be cleaning but so far have only managed to clean my plate (lunch) and watch tv. I'll get to it soon, I swear.

There is an inordinate amount of choking episodes in my office. I don't understand this, could it be an epidemic? I don't mean full-on choking requiring the Heimlich manuever and such, just the *chokechokechokegaspcough* fits that often end with someone dashing into the victim's cubicle to slap them heartily on the back. Maybe these are misguided attempts to simulate a feeling a praise, since it's about the only back-patting one can expect in that place.

I just think it's weird. The woman next to me (Fanny) does it at least once daily. Another woman a few cubes over from me does it several times a day, as if she'll just never get the hang of eating and breathing at the same time. Another seems to choke pretty badly about once a week on water. Yesterday it was so bad she almost vomited. I've never in my life heard choking as often as I have since I took this job 16 months ago. What the fuck?

Okay, I'm supposed to be cleaning, I better at least go make an attempt.
